Carcavelos received the 70 students qualified for School Sport National Surf Championship, with lots of sun and heat. During three days, the competition was intense and all participants took the opportunity to improve their level of surfing and to socialize with colleagues from all parts of the country, including Peniche surf students and others, Surf Portugal magazine reported.
With a program full of of competitions, meetings, parties and ceremonies, this National Championship was a very enriching experience for all participants. João Ferreira, national coordinator of the surf School Sports said that «It was very difficult to manage the race because every day we had different conditions. We chose to take the test in Carcavelos because with the strong north wind it felt impossible to take the exam to Guincho».
Peniche young surf champions and others competed in Carcavelos
João Ferreira added: «the competition has fulfilled all the stipulated time and the athletes worked to get the best results in small waves that hindered your surfing. The modality is growing a lot in school sports and the conditions created this year with the emergence of more surf training centers (Viana do Castelo, Porto, Peniche surf camps, Ericeira, Cascais, Caparica, Portimão and Pera), thereby generating a job with better quality. The support of the Portuguese Surfing Federation was essential to improve the quality of organization and the training of students/judges».
João Ferreira emphasized the support of the various entities involved and Rollei, who sponsored once again the event, providing all champions a camcorder so they can make your videos outside and inside water.
The program joined 22 modalities this year
The program of the National Championships in Lisbon this year simultaneously joined 22 modalities (about 2.500 young people in competition), presented an important social and cultural component. All students participated in the event's opening ceremony, filling the Coliseum of playgrounds.
The organization was in charge of School Sport in partnership with IBN Mucana Secondary School and Secondary of Cascais Citadel, and counted on the support of the Municipality of Cascais, the Portuguese Surf Federation, Portugal Surfing Club, Parish of Estoril/Cascais, Rollei Action Cam and Restaurant/Bar Beach House.
