Areia Branca
Here´s the mother beach! Nested in a unique location on our Portuguese coast just south of the city of Peniche and about an hour drive north from the capital Lisbon. Only a 5 min walk from the Underdog Surf House you can find this beach that besides having great surf also has a number of good restaurants, bars and shops that alow you to find enough service which keeps you from having to move around to other locations.
The main beach of Area Branca has about 5 breaks varying from sand bottoms to reef bottoms. There is a rivermouth that shapes the inside banks towards the southern tip of the beach and there´s at least one long right-hander towards the north side of the beach that starts off at a point break and ends in the middle of the beach. The normal direction of the north to south curents create awesome banks that alow for shorter left-hander beach breaks.
Tides play a major roll at this beach so a watchfull eye will find the better time to go in for the best surf although any tide is surfable.
As the clifts surrounding the beach give you a clear view of the daily situation, it´s easy to check the surf and make a decision on where to enter and sit for the best waves.
Most locals check Areia Branca first as the waves at this location are dependable when gambling on the ideal beach to surf. Luck is on our side with having this beach as the closest beach to the Underdog Surf House. You´ll see why when you get here!
